It was 15 years ago, on February 21, 2009, when I posted a short update on my first personal website, stefanwithoutanend.sk:
More updates for the website are coming soon.
(Unfortunately, there is no easy/free way to look at historical whois records, as I let the domain expire many years ago, so I might not know the exact date of when I registered the domain, but I assume it was around that day.)
I used my first website to mostly host my early illustrations, and unfortunately there’s not much left of it to see today.
In May 2011 I moved on to a new domain, fourtonfish.com, and its content changed as I slowly transitioned into web development. Since 2014 I’ve also owned stefanbohacek.com, but only started using it in late 2022.
Owning your own piece of the web has become more important than ever, thanks to its increasing “enshittification“.
If you don’t have a personal website yet, you can easily make one with tools like neocities.org and glitch.com, completely for free.
Even if it’s just a simple website. You might look at it, 5, 10, or 15 years from now and you’ll be able to say: I made this. This is my piece of the web.
15 years of owning a piece of the web.
